Options for black tank flushing?

I currently have no flush systems/accessories on my TT. Looking at amazon.com for options. Found the following options and wondering what your opinions are.

Camco Quickie Flush

---VS-----

Hydroflush

Thoughts or any other recommendations?

  • I started with the Hydro Flush, but found that it didn't do a good job.

I still had to put a flush tube down the toilet to thoroughly clean the black tank, even after using the Hydro Flush I still got stuff out of the tank when using the "Wand" down the toilet.

I just installed the Camco Quickie Flush my self and it works great!!

No hassle, just hook up the hose on the outside and rinse.I use a clear elbow to see when the water runs clear then I'm all done. I also installed an elbow at the inlet, like that is in the picture on Amazon that keeps it close to the tank and it has no kinks in the hose.
  • The hydroflush (and like device - Flush King) works great if you have a clog at the opening of the drain. The water will force the clog back up into the tank, but as mentioned does very little in flushing out the inside of the tank. It is a good way to add water to the tank.

The inside tank devices like the Camco, Quickie Flush, Tornado all spray inside the tank and helps in getting stuff off the walls and sensors. If your tank is easily accessible, installation of one of these devices is fairly simple. They are also very helpful in adding water to the tank.

    Hope this helps

  • go with the Camco. To me, the in tank ones work better. Just make sure your valves are open when you connect to water hose to prevent pressurizing your tank.
  • I have a device similar to the Hydroflush. If what you want to do is to backfill your tank with water and hope things simply flow out then it works OK. It does very little to actually clean the tank. You really need something that will spray the sides and loosen anything stuck there.
  • We have that type of fitting also, but added a Tornado several years ago on our HTT and it did a fine job. They are relatively inexpensive....seems like abut $35 or so. DH just could not bring himself to cut into that tank, so we had CW install it...think that was about $50. Now, with more confidence, he says it would be an easy job. I think most folks install their own. You'll for sure want to have the tank as clean as you can before this project.
