OSI GS121 Clear Synthetic Polymer Sealant

A friend of mine turned me onto this stuff at Lowes, we both have to re-caulk our campers and are going to try this stuff, he uses this and geocel and says the both of them are about the same. I never go down the gutter aisle at lowes but from what I can see it should do the job. I will update this thread after I get the job done.

  • wow, I read you "resealed the back and used 2 tubes" and I was trying to figure how wide of a bead you were using :). now I see how you could use that much sealant.
  • I hear yah, this is a pic of this camper being rebuilt. I am not going to put something on it to seal leaks that I think will not work.

  • sorry Mellow, I spent a good part of this weekend sealing my 2011 Open Range 5th wheel again. I have learned that what even the RV dealers and even the factory's use don't really work. so I am skeptical of any solution. Plus a sealant failure is real expensive.

My Open Range has to be the worse trailer I have ever owned for factory sealing. I have owned it 4 years and have 4 major places of delamanation )it was a leftover that I bought in late 2012, than it spend the next 2 winters stored inside, so problems did not show up until after warranty was up)

On the sides of the roof they put this piece of metal strip on the side of wall to hold down roof materiel. on the front and rear corners they stuck a plastic rain gutter extender under this metal strip, than squirted a little caulk on it to keep water out.
well the plastic, wood, metal and roof all expand at different rates, and this joint keeps ripping open. it only last like 3 months with dicore non leveling, and the 3M stuff just cracks and leaks. Plus its white, and RV is gray :(
I also had water running down the side walls of slide, then it was soaking into the plywood floor because the finishing trim was installed too high. When I fixed that problem I discovered that apparently all the trim materiel is sealed with double sided open cell foam tape that they felt would keep out the water.

of course I am out of warranty before any of this showed up.
but I did install a slide out awning and used Geocel and its holding up great.

let me know how this stuff works out. I need to do something different. But its already too late, its now too ugly to ever have a trade value again. I just need to keep it sealed to prevent further damage, since I will probably be forced to own this one forever.

PS: the dealer that sold me the Wolf Creek sealed the whole thing with Geocel before I picked it up new. its holding up great!
  • My main thing was this was available locally for $6 a tube. I have used 2 tubes on the back so I am guessing I will go through another 2-3 tubes for the rest of the camper.

That is quite a bit of savings for what seems to be the same product.
  • geocel RV is around $13.00 per tube on Amazon. Since everybody is saying "this product is as good as geocel", I think I will stick with the geocel :).
I mean how much will you use?
  • I wanted to update this thread, I got the back half of my camper done with the OSI product last month and while it is a PIA to work with (you can't smooth it very well) it is holding up well so far, dries super clear, really flexible and sticks well to where I put it on both fiberglass and aluminum.
  • I bought my Arctic Fox almost 2 years ago & my dealer suggested that I use OSI. I found it at Home Depot. I did a lot of resealing last Fall & the OSI seems to be holding up fairly well, as good as anything else I have used. Being readily available at Home Depot or Lowes makes it better.

  • I like this aspect of it:

Permanently flexible, will not become brittle even after years of exposure to freezing and thawing
