Starting with the 2001.5, Dodge 2500 and 3500's were equipped with big disc brakes all around. That was just one of the reason I bought the truck. Brakes work fine even with a 16,000 pound Gross with no fade going down endless 6-8% grades. As far as I can tell, the ".5" on the year only added all-around disc brakes, mid year production.
What it does not have are engine brakes or exhaust brakes. That would help.

Figured that the brakes would be okay, but a lot of people (myself included) find that with the weight on the back that the truck seems like it is not responding to the brakes even when it is as we are so use to the feel of a car or unloaded truck.
