Outside kitchen fridge

Does the outside kitchen fridge continue to cool while you are going down the road? I didn't think it would, but the dealer assured me it did. When I asked about how, he couldn't really answer, but said it would. I don't believe it is since when it is hooked up prior to the trip it is cold in there and there is frost on the freezer section but not after the trip and setting up camp...

It was a Camping World, which overall I like because of the large selection, but I think that contributed to the issue. The salesman didn't know as much as I did on the model we liked (internet research). It is a great unit, just a little less than thrilled at the prep by the salesman.
  • The dealership was ok, but the salesman was a little squirrley at times, so...

I didn't think it would work off shore power as I said, so I will put some ice packs in and only keep drinks in there. We were traveling longer distances than normal on the last trip, so that definitely didn't help.

    Thanks all.
  • we stock ours with drinks and water only.. two day before going out.

for short 2 or 3 hours drives.. it stays cold. even though there is no power.
  • All the outside fridges I've seen have been the standard "cube" refrigerator that runs on shore power only. If you're only going a couple hours from home then yes, whatever you've got in there will stay cold (provided you've cooled everything down before hand). But if you're looking for that to stay cold on a day-long trip through Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi & Louisiana in the summer then I've got bad news..........

Now if the dealer assured you that it "continues to cool as you're going down the road" I'd be on the hunt for another dealer. This one does not know his/her product, period.
  • Come on , your dealer can't be that un-informed. The out fridges are just bar fridges ..only 110v . They can stay cool while travelling if not opened just like your kitchen fridge will stay cool during a power outage.
Just put freezer packs in them while on the road or better yet take your dinner out of the inside freezer and it will slowly thaw in the fridge and keep valuables(beer and pop)cold till you plug in .
  • Most outside kitchen fridges appear to be electric thus requiring an inverter to operate whenever not plugged into shore power.
