Outside refrigerator removal

My wife and I just got back from 40 days camping in Florida with our new Jayco Whitehawk 27DSRL. We never even considered using the outside refrigerator, and I don't foresee us ever using it, and could well use the extra storage space if it were removed. How many of you have removed theirs and can you give me any tips/does-don'ts before I get on with it?

BTW, we absolutely loved the Keys!!!
  • Look for screws used to secure to camper. The bar fridge on our Minnies has screws that are accessible after you open the fridge door. Screws may be located at the back of the fridge if there is access to the back of the fridge.

I love having the extra fridge just for the cold drinks and it saves room in the main fridge. I'd suggest waiting a bit longer before pulling it. But, after a 40 day trip to Florida, it won't do any harm to pull it. Just don't get rid of it until you've taken a variety of trips. You may find that you will want to put it back in for some trips.
  • We have a full outside kitchen with a good size fridge and freezer. That and the tv in the kitchen are my favorite 2 things about the trailer. When we travel there is just water and cans of lemonade or soda but once we start cooking, the milk, butter, coffee cream, extra meat etc end up in there so we do not have to go in and out and things don't get left out in the warm weather.

That said, looking at what you have I can understand that it takes from your front storage and is most likely not as useful as mind. Mine is just screwed in with a couple of clips and is easy to remove. How tight is yous in that compartment.
  • They put those things in tightly. Unlike the above post, we found the extra refrigerator very handy. Especially when we were campground host in Big Bend Nat Park, a very remote mountainous region in West Texas. The nearest grocery store was 30 miles away. Walmart was an hour and a half away.
I'd would want to be absolutely sure before going through the hassle for so little a space.
  • I've been thinking of doing the same thing. Right now we just use it for storage. Removing it would increase the capacity of the space. Mine is somehow fastened down. I am going to have to finally snoop around and figure out how.
  • Most of these trailers with an outside "kitchen" will have a dorm style 120 vac compressor fridge ... just unplug it and pull it out.
