Overloaded? Nah, it's a truck. It can handle it, right?

Saw a guy the other day at Lowes with a Cadillac Avalanche or whatever Caddy's version of it is and he had them load a full pallet of something into the bed of the truck and it rose a few feet above cab of truck. Left w/o strapping it down (at least I didn't see him do it), tailgate down but best part was, his receiver was NO MORE than 8" off the ground. I mean this thing was WAAAAAAAAAY overloaded. My guess is, it was at least a ton of product. Glad I went the opposite direction.

    One day as I was leaving my parents home a P/U went by with a load of sod that went a little above the cab. I debated about calling police in the next town but didn't. We left 10 minutes later and passed where he was stopped along the road with smoke coming from the rear of the truck. I think the tires had rubbed until they got so hot that they started smoking.

    While camping in Murrells Inlet, SC I saw a guy towing a tri-axle Airstream with a Dodge Magnum. Had a large hitch that almost dragged on the pavement. I am sure that Airstream had a GCWR of 9600# and I doubt that the Magnum had a towing capacity of that amount. Had Canadian plates on the vehicle. He said it had plenty of power to tow the trailer, not sure about stopping it in an emergency.

    Riding a lawn more on the road in Mn without a driver license is illegal in Minnesota. My neighbor had a DUI and was going everywhere on a lawn tractor (including the liquor store ! ) until he was pulled over and informed it was against the law.

    A man down the road never had a drivers license. He still gets around to shops, Dr's. Etc. In his new John Deere Tractor 6R series

    I feel like I could make decent money doing delivery outside of furniture stores, Staples/OfficeMax, etc. from people who buy furniture but have no way of getting it home. Last Christmas, I saw a worker and some guy working furiously to get an entire L-shaped desk and multiple chairs into the dude's car. It was all in boxes/pieces that needed to be assembled. Nothing special and nothing I hadn't done with my car before until I saw that they had a box across the backseat that was wider than the car!

    The driver's side door was closed but the passenger door was propped a good 1/3 of the way open. As I walked past, they were talking about how they were going to loop the seatbelt around it to secure it.

    I couldn't help it- I asked where they lived. It was a good 25-30 minutes away (with the primary route being down I-95). Had it been closer, I could have helped, but I had my 18 month old with me and it was already pretty late.

    As with the others- I didn't hear a crazy story on the news later, so I assume they made it.

    Two years ago my 2nd DD purchased 1500 lbs of floor tile from Home Depot. She tried to get them to load it into the trunk of her car, Ford Escort. They advised her to get a truck, as that much tile would take her all day to carry in the Escort.

    She called me and I showed up with my 05 Silverado 2500-HD with 5th hitch installed. They loaded to tile, not quite full pallet-worth directly onto the truck with the forklift. One trip - no problem, except unloaded it tile-by-tile.

    Of course, 38 yrs ago, I carried nearly a tone of rock in my 75 Ford Courier pickup and drove home, 9 miles. No problem. Steering was a "little light". I could only steer when front end came down to touch the road.

    See this stuff all the time

    From towing, hauling to a Civic telling the guy at local hardware loading wood
    pellets

    It was down to the bump stops and the hardware guy called his manager. Who came
    out and had the Civic owner sign a waiver. Always wondered if he made it home
    and if he drove on the freeway. Nothing in the news, so assume he made it and
    thinks his Civic can haul anything...true...but the real issue for how long

    Countless times come up to a setup swaying all over the place. Most memorable
    was an Explore pointed to the sky, tail dragging a very large trailer taking
    two lanes with it's sway

    The driver and passenger were having a marvelous time eating pizza with not a
    inkling of what they were causing to everyone around them. Assume they made it
    to where ever they were going, as never saw a news report about them. Think they
    number in the thousands or more...

    Folks who refer to folks who believe in the ratings systems and numbers as
    "The Weight Police"

    A derogatory so that they can ignore them and wait till they hear what they
    want to hear
