We had one in our ROO and also installed the little thumb switch for on/off. We never had any leaks. I'd be inclined to call the manufacturer back and ask to speak to a supervisor. With all the folks who've installed them with great satisfaction, this is the first I've heard and I doubt very seriously that this is "standard".
