Thanks for your opinions. I finally got ahold of the support people at oxygenics and have figured out what was going on. I will share the details here in case it may be helpful to any of you.
The hose is designed to be installed in only one direction! The end with the smaller flange is designed to have a washer and then be attached to the on/off switch (mine is the model with the thumb push switch NOT the rotary barrel switch) The other end of the hose has a washer and then attaches to the supply. The flange at this end is larger and has small openings on the hose side of the flange that are designed to allow for the introduction of air to the line when in use. (hence the claim by oxygenics that it aerates and mixes the flow) this flange took some fiddling to get it properly housed, and is still designed so that with back pressure it will allow the excess pressure to leak from the line by the tap.
So in answer to some observations, yes i did have the washers in place, no i did not have the shutoff turned on and yes the shower head wll work when attached to the original hose already in the trailer, but it all works best when properly installed!
