- lizzieExplorerOur issues were with the impossibility of stopping the leaking around the back door. We already had damage before we discovered it and supposedly had it fixed twice. We were vigilant in monitoring it and tried our best to take good care of it but it was a lose-lose situation for us. I liked the pop-up TC concept and we enjoyed our trips but we just didn't want to take the risk again. lizzie
- sljohnson1938Exploreri do not know much about Palomino except they do not have a grey water tank.
we had considered a B1500 LB, but with no grey water tank it was a no go.
i like the pop up type and have had 4 of them. Two Northstar TS1000. which were ok. as for problems with Palomino i have heard the construction quality is not good, but then when you consider the cost compared to a Hallmark or Outfitter - you get what you pay for -. - Old_DaysExplorer IIIf you want to take a trip to Wisconsin I will be selling my real lite 1603. My wife found a Northstar 8.5 that she really likes. We have had good luck with the pop up, but DW wants a indoor shower.
- mkirschNomad IIYou can't make a fair comparison of a new camper to someone's poorly maintained castoff.
Not sure of lizzie's situation but I could understand swearing off a brand if that happened to a NEW camper. However, if it was a used camper you could expect that to happen to almost any brand, especially if it was poorly maintained.
My Palomino was kept inside, and had some periodic maintenance, during its first 10 years, and was in decent shape when I bought it. Based on my experiences with my Palomino I would look seriously at another one, because most of the problems I found were caused by the previous owner.
The only real serious design flaws in my camper are/were:
1. Leaky rear door. I have heard that this was common, and the problem has been addressed with a new door design.
2. Nonexistent floor support under the shower pan. The current version of the B1500 has a completely different bathroom design from mine, so the issue may be addressed. I would have to inspect the bathroom floor construction carefully before buying a new unit.
3. Bowed walls at the rear of the camper, making it difficult to lower the top. Now I'm not sure if this is a design flaw or damage, but it was this way when I bought it, and it hasn't gotten any worse since I've owned it. I would not buy a new Palomino if the walls were bowed on a new unit. - Joe417ExplorerI agree with RWDII.
I had a Palomino M8801, had issues that were repaired and really liked it.
All TC models have seen issue here and there. It may be just what your son is looking for. The material they are made from isn't any less quality than other manufacturers.
I visited the factory and the only issues I saw was individual personal attention to detail, as in a little more sealer here and there.
I was much happier paying for the Palomino than my AF, but that goes with those dreaded "I wants". - RWDIIIExplorerPlease post a pic of the truck and camper if he gets one.
It seems I am the only one on the forum that likes them.
His cost should be about $12000.
people love to compare them to $26000 campers and then say how bad they are. - AmericamperExplorerRealter, No this would be for my son. My wife is too happy with the Laredo. We did another 4 week trip out west last June, 8K miles.
- realterExplorerWhy are you considering moving from your hard side to a pop up? You've put so many miles on your current rig!
- lizzieExplorerI have no idea whether Palomino quality has improved but I would never take a chance on them again. Our Bronco leaked badly and we considered ourselves very lucky that we were able to sell it to a person who felt like taking on the project of fixing it. lizzie
