In 04 when we bought the MH DW asked if I didn't want a storage slide out. Nope I responded as it won't be a problem to access all of the "stuff".
Fast forward a year when I bought the rails and then built and installed the slide out. We do carry a lot of weight and the 5' extension on either side is nice.
As for comments about lost space - In our case there is no lost space as to much of the space was not very usable.
