Pay Load for 06 dodge

I need some help finding the payload rating for a truck I'am looking to buy. It's a 2006 dodge ram, 3500 dully heavy duty, 4x4 diesel, it only has 48,800 miles on it. It's 200 mile from me, so I can't go an see it till next week, the sales man is tilling me the payload is only 2250 witch seams low for a 3500 dully ? If someone has the same truck it would be very helpful too find out the real payload. I want to get a 9.5 or 8.5 camper for it. I was at the Northstar factory the other day and was in there 9.5 igloo an a 8.5 arrow I liked 9.5 but it wt. is about 3500 ib. Thanks for your help.

    I have a truck like you are looking at. Mine is a Bighorn trim, 4x4, Cummins, Auto, and some extras. The truck scales about 7980 lbs with full fuel and me inside. GVWR is 12,200 lbs.

    With me, the DW, full fuel, truck and AF990 fully loaded for extended camping my total weight is about 12,900 lbs. About 8000 lbs on the rear and the rest on the front.

    The salesman might be flat out wrong. Or, he may be looking at the sticker in the glovebox which probably subtracts 150 pounds for every seat position in the cab off the payload.
    Either way, a dually will handle the campers your looking at.
    The math you need to do is rear axle capacity but you should be fine with 8 and 9 foot campers. It's the 11 foot ones that get you into trouble.

    As you can see by my signature, I have the truck you are looking at. My camper is 3,000 lbs dry and probably in the 3,800 lbs range wet. I feel like the camper couldn't be a better match for this truck. And like donn0128, my truck weighs approx. 8,000 lbs empty. I'll check my door jamb for an exact GVWR

    Mine scales ready to travel at 8000 and has a gvwr of 11500. That is a quad cab 4X2 long bed with my hitch in the bed.
