We should probably start locking our camper door at night :0
When we can't get away, we sleep in our fiver parked behind our side gate, beside our house. We lock the door at night and keep our cell phone and dogs with us. Anyone can jump the fence and do something stupid. Are we paranoid? No. Are we cautious, yes.
One persons cautious or prepared is another persons paranoid. Being a backpacker, one doesn't get more boondocking than that. We sleep on the ground without a tent.
You're right about one doesn't get more boondocking that sleeping on the ground in a tent, but my description compared to yours is like what Jumbo_Jet said - I would not EVER dry camp behind a liquor store in South Chicago, but I would dry camp in the Ozark National Forest in Arkansas without much apprehension - my neighborhood is not behind a liquor store in Chicago but it is in a suburban area and cars in our neighborhood have been broken into.
But if we want to go down the road of one upping Boondocking. I will call you on your camping in a tent and raise you one;
When I bivouacked in a tent hanging off our climbing ropes while spending the night on Longs Peak, in Rocky Mountain National park, while were climbing the Diamond. By the way, not my first night bivouacking on a climb, either. Now that is boondocking . . .
Lets just agree we all have different choices, uses and styles in how we use and explore with our Truck Campers. None better, none worse, but confidence is gained in the more we do it and push ourselves, building our confidence.
Safe travels to everyone and I am looking forward to hearing the feedback for the upcoming articles too, including the pushback, especially on my upcoming article on “Stealth Camping.” If I can do it in my 48’1” rig, you probably can too.
