This reminds me of a time several years ago when I was camped near Crater Lake, OR.
I had placed my Honda EU2000i gen out away from my camp, as far as the 80' extension cord would reach (which I do all the time to minimize the noise I hear)
The camp host said NOT to leave it unattended, because people drive through and steal them all the time. He said it's a big red target for thieves.
Made me think that if I need to buy one again, I'd get the camouflaged style.
Once item I bought recently, which would disorient someone enough to give me time to take other action is a flashlight that has a strobe function.

My wife carries a small one in her purse... the D25A2 which uses 2 AA batteries
