Picking up a used TT with equalizer (not mine) what to know?

I am going to check out a Rockwood 2306 tomorrow evening and will probably come home with it. It comes with an equalizer hitch. It looks like it was set up for a Ford suv (probably Explorer) which would have the hitch way lower than my Ram 1500 outdoorsman. I live about 90 miles away on mostly expressway. Will I be able to get this TT home tomorrow or should I take it to a dealership close by (the sale) and have them set the hitch for me? I'd just tow it with my current hitch but would be worried about sway.
  • Well, it was all for naught as the camper wasn't in the shape it was said to be in. And the search continues...
  • In the future it might be a good idea to measure the ball height you need for the trailer (tongue weight) and then at the very least do a rough setup before you drive. I saw someone pull into a campground last weekend pullig a TT with no WD hitch or anything. Just the tongue on a ball. It's all good till it isn't.
  • Using a WD hitch and sway control are totally dependant on the TT and TV. I am towing a 2700 lb TT with an F150 Ecoboost. The truck has a towing limit of 11,300 pounds and just got done with a 7,000 mile trip without any sway or low hitch problems, even with some strong winds.
I had one gentleman at a campground get on my case because he said that I was driving an unsafe rig. When I showed him my setup up close, he appoligized.
