popup won't fully open

My 2012 Northstar 850 popup TC worked great thru a recent NP tour in Four Corners area. When I got home and raised the top to unpack, it went up fine until about 80% up, then it stopped suddenly as if it hit something. At this point the right side slide is 10.5 inches from the full up and locked psotion. It doesn't't bind or get difficult to crank, it just stops suddenly. I can't see anything obstructing or missing teeth in toothed gear racks or within gear housing. When it stopped prematurely I noticed a roll pin retainer in the right side (passenger) slide was partially out, so I tapped it back in. In the top down position, is there any risk in removing these sliders (since the torsion bar is under tension)? Any ideas/suggestions will be much appreciated.

  • just saw your post today. i have a 2008 850sc bought uesd Last saturday we left a camp ground and drove 150 miles to another. went to raise the top and the passenger side did not go up.Thought I had forgot to open the hasps or lock downs on that side checked and they were unlatched After about 20 minutes of messing around trying to figure out what was wrong, noticed the pin in the passenger side"lift gear" was missing. did find it laying below the crank area. put it back in and is now working ok. Did you find any reason why yours is not operating? You might call the northstar folks. I ask them a question on putting in a a/c as to where to cut the top. They responded within a couple of days. would like to follow this post. Don't find much info on the northstars, maybe that is a good thing.
  • Much appreciated Roy, but site is level. A puzzle cuz I can't figure what could have changed just driving from last campsite. No rollovers or headons :-) Everything looks to be in place. Maybe something with the torsion bar? But it goes up normally until it just stops suddenly. It's a Heco torios lift system.

On my OFF-ROAD POPUP this happens to me if I am way out level when raising or lowering my electric POPUP roof. Mine has a dog latch multistage lifter arm system that it grabs on the way up. Mine usually goes up just fine but sometimes when coming down it hangs on one of the bottom lifter arm brace assy...

In my case I just run my front hitch jack up or down on my trailer to make it more level and it works fine????
