Portable Waste Tank

I am looking around at the portable waste tanks. I have seen that there are several brands on the market and there are some useful features on some of them such as built in hoses. I have even seen one that stops the flow when full.

I want to get some input on what brand and model that is popular and works best. I have never owned one as I usually do not camp without full hookups more than one night. I think I will use it most of grey water, but the need to dump my black tank may arise.

Right now I do not think I want anything too large. I think 18 gallon will serve my needs.

Thanks ahead of time for the feedback on this.

Thetford 27 gallon. I really like the 4 wheels. Just pulled it full over grass with no problem. Our old 2 wheeler was a pain and a strain to lift when full. I also like the built in hose and that the hose lowers to dump. All in all, I'm very pleased with ours.

X2. Three years with no issues.
  • I have a 2-wheel/15gal Barker, this weekend was my first time using it. It worked great but two things I immediately realized were:

    1. The two wheel towed well, but I would have preferred to hand pull a 4-wheel and not move my truck.

    2. The tote with the built in hose would be nice (while it lasted) so you don't have to transport/store a separate hose.

    Look on Amazon.com....compare prices.

Thank you, and I will do that.

What I am really looking for is people that have actual experience with these tanks.
  • PPL motorhomes had a great price on the Barker tank I bought even beating Amazon. I have only used it a few times since we mostly camp weekends. I upgraded the plastic tires to pneumatic dolly tires from Harbor Freight...the plastic wheels make a ton of noise and provided no cushion on uneven surfaces.

A built in dump valve with a side dump is idea to allow complete drainage but that is usually found on large tanks. I don't think you will find many features on that small of a tank.
  • Barker and Thetford are popular. You can get a larger barker with pneumatic tires. Both can be pulled by your TV to the dump station.

I have a Thetford - has a indicator that pops up when full and a hose connection to wash it out. Works OK. Use it for gray and black water if needed.
