If he's never going to go with a larger trailer or move to a 5er then it's a fine question but plenty of people have been down this path and ended up upgrading a second time or having to compromise on the RV upgrade due to limitations imposed by the tow vehicle. People are just trying to caution him that now might be the time to consider the more capable tow vehicle. Once you've gone past a half ton there's not much difference in price, ride, or fuel economy between a 3/4 and 1 ton and the 1 ton provides more flexibility in the future. Why some people get so upset about people offering useful advice and perspective based on experience I'll never understand.
I've looked at the 3500 range and they are just too far out of my price range. I'd love to get a diesel but I can hardly justify it with as little as it would be used and knowing nothing about them. I would like to know more about someday but for now we want to get out and go camping. Right now, we're young, just getting into this travel trailer thing, wanting to get away a few times throughout the year. For all I know, my kids will get older and hate it lol might have to downsize for something that's just for me and my wife. I am not upset about any suggestions, I'll consider all variables and possibilities. I've been reading and researching this topic for going on a month now and was ready to buy a 6.0l 2500HD silverado, and then that **** 8.1l showed up on the market and it gave me a moment to reconsider if I was making the right move. I'm a former combat engineer and our motto was always P for plenty and I carry that mentally around and apply it to other situations in life even if it's not really necessary. So, is the 6.0l gonna be a good tow vehicle or will end up wishing for more if we won't be towing much more than 8000lbs for the near to distant future. I'll buy the 8.1l if you guys think it's absolutely the way to go and do what's needs done maintenance wise if the 8.1l has problems but I'd prefer something with little to no maintenance (which is why I'm going with Chevy)
