Pre 2008 Ford Super Duty

Just a word of advice to all owners of pre-2008 Super Duty truck, invest in an alarm and kill switch. My 2002 F250 was stolen Friday night/Saturday AM. Recovered about a half mile away from home yesterday. Thief punched in the door lock and snapped off the ignition, drove it away. According to my local Sheriff's deputy these trucks are very easy to steal with only a screwdriver. They are pre-MAPS keys so no chips. Lucking the door lock and ignition were the only damage and I've already ordered the parts, I'll have it fixed for $100. The only thing they got out of it was my prescription sunglasses, nothing else because I don't leave anything in the truck.

I will be having an alarm installed along with the Cyclops kill switch system.

If you own a pre-2008 super duty spend the money. I know any determined thief will still get it if they want it but the harder you make it to steal the more likely it is they will move on to an easier target.

    No, it is a serious mental defect in some car thieves. The thrill of stealing successfully.

    I'd never make a good thief, why the hell would I go through the trouble to steal a vehicle, drive it a lousy 1/2 mile, then leave it,hardly even worth the effort. :S

    According to the Sheriff's deputy they either get stripped down for parts or they become mule vehicles for human and drug traffickers in Mexico. When I walked out front and saw my truck gone I figured I'd never see it again. We are less than 2 hours from the Southern border, I assumed it was gone. It was actually parked about a half mile from my house and my wife and I found it going to pick up dinner. Dumb luck but I'll take it.

    If you want to do it nicer you can remove the WHOLE cylinder lock in less than two minutes with a philips screwdriver and pick. Then another 30 sec's to install a new lock cylinder with your own key and drive it away. I wore out my lock cylinder, you could turn it without a key in it.

    For what ever reason the 2001-2007 SD's are highly sought after over in the sandbox. Not sure the reason, they just are.
