The Allison in my 5500 is a 1000 series same as in the pickups. The only difference that I am aware of is a deeper pan for more fluid. After 10 years of hard pulling, the only issue has been a new flex plate last year. After all the years that Duramax has been teamed with an Allison, you hear of very few issues with the de-neutered Allison. When you do, it is most always due to a "chipped" Duramax.
