Would it be worth the wait for the new 7.0 V-8 gas motor?
Is the 7.0 coming to the f-250? I heard f450-550 and manual trans only.
I tow a 32' trailer with a 2.7l turbo engine and it has no trouble. I think the 6.2 is rated to something like 15k lbs in an f250. - marobrownExplorerWhen I picked up mine I ended up out the door including 4K trade at $41,900 for a lariat. Got pre approved for the loan before I went, and checked the build date and mileage when I test drove. The truck I bought was built in September 2016 and had 3 miles on it when I drove it. Was able to negotiate a little more off due to all of those factors I told them to come down from 43,000 to 41,500 and I would be back within the hour with a check as I was pre approved, when the salesman started to protest I said that they had had this truck for 5-6 months and no one had even test driven it due to it only having 3 miles on it and asked how much interest people really had in an extended cab long bed truck (which was exactly what I wanted). His response was not that much and he would be right back, came back and was able to get down to 41,900 out the door which I accepted. (Would have honestly accepted at 42,500 but it worked out in my favor this time).
- SouthpawHDExplorerI pull my 34' TT with my crew cab 6.0L GAS MOTOR, fully loaded with family and gear with ZERO problems. Pulled to Yellowstone last year and NEVER felt underpowered.
I'm sure a diesel pulls with less "effort", but at the price differential, it's just not worth it to many of us. - colliehaulerExplorer IIIWould it be worth the wait for the new 7.0 V-8 gas motor?
- Dave_H_MExplorer III agree with turtle.
However it seems to me that you don't have the low end grunt with the 6.2. you got to let it twist u a little and then the thing comes alive. - mowingmanExplorerWell, I know what the figures say, and you are correct. However, my personal experience with both engines does nothing to convince me those figures are accurate. I liked the way the v10 towed, and did not like the way the v8 towed.
Again, just my personal opinion from my experience with both engines. My 2010 Ford V10 had 362HP and 457 Ft Lb. of torque according to published specs. This is probably why I found the differences I have stated. It seems like the 2003 has lower ratings. I was not aware that. - Turtle_n_PeepsExplorer

The problem here is that you are not comparing apples to apples. I also had a V10, and it pulled great. However, the 6.2 is only a V8, and does not perform anywhere as strong in towing, as the V10.
What are you talking about?
A 2003 V10 has 310 HP and 425 ft/lbs of torque.
A 2017 6.2 has 385 HP and 430 ft/lbs of torque.
Tell me how a "V8 is not anywhere as strong in towing as the V10" with those figures? :h - mowingmanExplorerThe problem here is that you are not comparing apples to apples. I don't think you will be happy pulling that size trailer with the big gas engine. I had a 2015 with the big gasser. It had to work pretty hard to pull our 26' TT in hilly country. The engine does ok, but you will not get there in a hurry, you will endure a lot of engine noise as it downshifts a lot on even slight hills, and fuel mileage is terrible. If you still want the gasser, I would say a price in the lower 40's for that truck is pretty fair.
I traded mine for a very low mileage 2016 Powerstroke. Got it for under 40, out the door.
Look for low mileage used. You can save a ton of money up front.
I have towed that TT plus several others with my 2003 F250 Ford with the V10 eng for over 70K miles with no problems towing. 7 to 9 towing
and just got back from Yuma with my P/Up bed loaded and got 15 on the Freeway nearly 700 miles. Only reason I am thinking of buying a new P/Up is my 2003 has 104K miles and I don't care to leave the money to the "kids" - Ron3rdExplorer IIIIf that price is their first offer, then no, it is not their best deal. Doesn't sound too bad though on that caliber of truck but a bit high
