- mowingmanExplorerI don't think you will be happy pulling that size trailer with the big gas engine. I had a 2015 with the big gasser. It had to work pretty hard to pull our 26' TT in hilly country. The engine does ok, but you will not get there in a hurry, you will endure a lot of engine noise as it downshifts a lot on even slight hills, and fuel mileage is terrible. If you still want the gasser, I would say a price in the lower 40's for that truck is pretty fair.
I traded mine for a very low mileage 2016 Powerstroke. Got it for under 40, out the door.
Look for low mileage used. You can save a ton of money up front. - colliehaulerExplorer IIII would agree that the 18's will be out before long and they should start discounting the 17's. As others have suggested I would check truecar.com for what others are paying.
When I was buying new I would always low ball them knowing they would not accept. This cut a lot of the BS out getting to a low price.
Actually one time my very low offer was accepted, even surprised me. - CramboExplorerI would shop around at a few different dealers and make them work against each other. The price sounds a little high given that it's a gas motor. I know the 17's are new and hot right now but I still think you can beat that price. Also, here in a few months the 18's will start showing up so the price should drop a little more.
- samsontdogExplorerThanks to all the replys. I appreciate the comments. Helps an old fart make up my mind
- IdaDExplorerI know the 2017 models aren't being discounted as much as the old model but that seems really high to me. I was looking at Powerstokes for quite a bit less a couple of years ago. On a pickup these days I think $10k off sticker should be the minimal goal.
I also think walking into a dealership and negotiating a price is the wrong way to deal anymore. Shop multiple dealers and get the best quote so you know the price before you show up. - Grit_dogNavigatorDon't be a sucker know what you're getting into. You didn't provide the most important part of the analysis. What's the sticker price?
Take sticker price, knock off 5-7 grand and that's a deal. They're not going to give away the first new model in almost 20 years first year and early in the year. You may not get that much off.
Depends on locale. Here in Seattle, too many people with too much money, car dealers don't sell cheap at all. Went looking at last year's models 2016 SRT8 chargers. Local dealer had a pile of them and '17s parked in front of them. They only came down like 3 grand off sticker. And I gave them the option for me to purchase however was best for them. I'd pay cash or they could finance it however they wanted high interest, whatever (as long as I could pay it off early).
Too many people walk in that s uck at financial analysis to deal with someone who knows what they're doing. Not enough money in it and wasting their time they could be spending on up selling some other sap. - donn0128Explorer IIConsidering Fords build site shows 40K for a gas mptor XLT I would think the dealer is over priced.
- brooks379ExplorerI would pay more and get the 6.7 diesel. My friend bought the Ford 250 with a gas motor and when we haul cattle to places he can't begin to keep up with my 6.7 Powerstroke and he doesn't get near the mpg I do. I paid $43,100 for my F350 6.7 4x4, 8' bed, crew cab, XL, FX4 OFF ROAD, brand new in "2014". Good luck.
- MFLNomad IIJust a tip, when making an offer! Never make your offer a question, such as, "will you take this much xxxxx for it"? Rather say, "I will give you this much xxxxx for it right now", even better to have check book in your hand. This lights their SOLD sign in their head, and they are taking you much more seriously.
Jerry - Dave_H_MExplorer III would take a peek at Kelly Blue Book also to get a educated guess.
