Prodigy 2 Brake Controller

I have a problem that I am hoping the experts here can help with.
My controller in the past when its damp will once in awhile start applying the brakes. One time going into the entrance of a provincial park it locked the brakes right up. Onetime driving by a dealer ,they stated acting funny. Turned around and went in to the dealer.Sold me on a new controller, seems to be fine. Started down the highway and they started acting up again. Turned them off for the rest of the trip Way back it was dry out, no problem. Only when it's wet. Even changed the plug on the back of my 2001 GMC pickup. trailer axles and brakes are all new. this is with my feet off the pedal. Weird
  • HeyWestend , I'll check out the wiring for shorts.
RCMAN46 The old and the new one were both Prodigy 2's
BZ MAN I work at a GM garage. I'll have to ask some of my buddies. My truck is a 2001 GMC

Thanks guys, Gives me something to go on.
  • Had a similar problem with my 2008 Silverado. My problem ended up being the brake switch mounted on the brake pedal under the dash. Turns out this was a common problem with these trucks. Good Luck
  • Were both controllers Prodigy 2's? The Prodigy should give you a code if there is a short between any of the wiring.

Also if both controllers are Prodigy you should have received the second under warranty.

With your foot off the pedal the P2 should not be active, that is to say it should not send voltage to the trailer brakes. There is a connection from the P2 to the brake switch that activates the controller ONLY when the brakes are applied. There is one exception, the slider bar on the controller will activate the trailer brakes even with your foot off the brake.
