GM Brake Controller vs prodigy?

2015 Silverado 2500HD LT. Gas, LB, CC........

I installed my prodigy brake controller from my old truck and it works well, happy with it except I'm not crazy about the mounting location under the dash. The factory brake controller on the higher end models sure looks good to me in terms of its location on the dash, visibility, and operation. The question is, are they any good? or should I just keep my prodigy?

Disagree and IMHO, MC pressure sensed does NOT turn on the trailer brakes as soon as a TV brake pedal switch sensed like the P2/P3

Plus, an MC pressure sensed does NOT continue to increase the trailer brake voltage when the TV brake pedal is NOT pressed any farther after setting the switch

Think most who don't like a P2/P3 did not setup their TV brake pedal switch well

I can touch and hold the TV brake pedal a small fraction of an inch to turn on the pedal switch and not press any farther. This is akin to leaning over and manually sliding the lever/button on most any after market and even the OEM IBC

That will have the P3's accelerometer sense deceleration and send ever more voltage to the trailer brakes all the while the TV brakes are not braking.

This way I can stop the whole TV/Trailer without getting the TV's brakes turned on and is why my P3 leads the TV brakes....and can decide to brake the TV if I should want to

With any highly integrated trailer brake system...they are integrated into every computer on the TV (or most all) and is a potential wonderful thing...if...they all work well....but....if anyone of the other computers/sensors has an issue...the whole braking system might/will barf

The cost has a very large potential to diag and fix. An add on like my P3 is warrantied for life and a brand new one costs under $150 on sale...should have kept my P2 as a spare in case something happens on the road with my P3 (not likely, but poop happens)

Personal choice and mine is to keep it simple (KISS philosophy) and NOT tie into the TV's network of computers

I don't think you can add a factory brake controller in a GM like you can in FCA and Ford.

99% correct. You actually can if you have really deep pockets.

There was talk GM was going to make the 16's and up almost plug and play and come out with a low priced kit to add one (low priced as in a few hundred bucks), I am not sure if that ever happened.

    agreed
  • I liked my prodigy in my previous Silverado, but the IBC in my new Silverado works even better in my opinion.
  • Much better, they work in coordination with the antilocks so emergency stops are more controlled.
If I had the option, I would give the IBC a try.
  • I don't think you can add a factory brake controller in a GM like you can in FCA and Ford.
  • GM Brake Controllers are far superior in my opinion. I've had 2 OEM and 2 aftermarket brake controllers.
  • I'm very happy with my Chevy's trailer package which includes 3.42 rear axel, suspension package-air leveling and the brake controller with the controls mounted on left lower dash. Status appears on dash electronics.
