Ours is hard wired with the remote display. Worth every penny. Can be turned off with the flick of a switch. The remote display tells you the error codes (if any) the real time amp draw, and the available voltage. Knowing the real time amp draw is great to figure out amperage when using a generator.
We never have to remember to plug it in. Never leave it behind.
Why turn it off ? 1- if the voltage is too low (brownouts), 2- if there is a missing ground as when running off a generator
