Proper oil filter for my cummins

I have I read many times about which filter is better for my 04 cummins diesel. I remember there were filters with smaller pores and I would like to get the best filter possible. My dodge has 137K and is great. Thanks for your help.

  • The old factory Mopar filter should be a good one also.

I have read claims, unverified, that the Mopar filter is a Fleetguard stratapore.

Nevertheless, again, the factory Mopar filter should be a good one also.
  • Well, if you want to stick strictly with fleetguard, I would highly recommend paying the few bucks more for a "Stratapore" lube filter. These are the ones with the smaller / more uniform pores you speak of. I run an LF16035 on my Cummins, I don't know if it'd be the same filter for your 5.9. The stratepores are some of the best out there, you don't get much better filtering unless you do a bypass filter setup. As for baldwin and luberfiner, I have no experience with those filters and I've never seen beta ratings for them (or the fleetguard unit) so I couldn't tell you how good they are relative to each other. But I've heard nothing but good things with either product
  • I use Baldwin oil and fuel filters in my 2005 Dodge diesel.

they work well, I use shell rotella 15w40 oil.

change oil and fuel filter at 5K intervals, but I do not put many miles on my truck.

85K miles on the truck, have the auto transmission oil and filter changed at 40K intervals, bands adjusted, shifts and runs great.

great truck, gets good mpg and has plenty of power to spare.
I also use the std mopar 4" thick air filter.
