I wouldn't automatically discount a F250/2500 series 3/4 ton truck just because of the badging on the side. Take a look at the sticker on the door pillar and see what the load capacity is. Many F-250 and 2500 HD trucks were optioned with the heavy duty packages, and are essentially the same as a 1 ton. Don't know about Chevy and Fiat Ram, but the Ford F250 from 2005-2016 with the 10K GVWR package is the same as the F350. The large gas engine in all three makes are reliable and can do the job.
I once repo-ed a 41' triple slide with a pin weight that had to be around 3000, towed it out of the hills of SE Ohio all the way back to Columbus, using my former 2005 F250 CC diesel with the 10K package. It had Timbrens on it, and it handled the weight just fine, but I wouldn't want to do it all the time.
F250's from around model year 2005 went up to 10k GVW and F350s went up to 11,500K GVW. While they might share the same under pinnings, their weight ratings are different to CTA (cover their a**).
