I did this on my last camper set-up. The space in front was primarily for a Honda 3000EU generator. There was also access space on either side of the camper forward of the wheel wells. Welcome space for firewood, empty beer cans, other...
The spacer was built custom for the generator making sure that the back part of the camper did not touch the rear tail lenses. If set up properly, the COG will still be the same as if the SB camper was installed on a SB truck- this is because the axles location from the rear bumper is the same on either truck. My COG was still forward on the axle by about 2" even thought the camper seems to appear further back.
I took Frank’s advice and put our Eagle Cap 850 (VERY similar to your AF) on our new LB.
Best thing ever. Love it. The added storage is the catsazz.
I found I was able to cheat the camper further forward on the LB. COG is 2” forward of axle, with SB I was 1” behind axle. I built a wood frame like Franks that keeps the camper ~ 1” off my tail lights.
We have now run a full season like this and I wish I had done this years ago.
Provide your email and I can send pics. I’m too old to mess around with posting pics on this site. It’ a freakin mess now and don’t understand why. Was easier years ago!
