Putty?

I'm changing one of the outside lights on my trailer for an LED unit (the original had broken). What is the putty stuff that is between the light and the trailer? I'm sure it's helpful in keeping water out, but not sure what I need to get? Also, do i use dicor along the edge or something else?

  • Thanks all!! I appreciate the help! Now will head to the hardware store and pickup the needed item. And will check my "weep" holes!

I was checking things around one of my two outside scare lights and noticed it had a wep hole in the lens. I looked at the other one and the wep hole was on top and the inside area was half full of water up to where the wiring came inside the trailer. I have been noticing some water inside one of my high mounted cabinets...

Good catch on my part. Rotated the lens to get the wep hole on the bottom and that solved my water problem..

Be sure to check your outside lens for a wep hole and make sure it goes back on the bottom after you take it out... The smaller outside porch lights may not have one...

  • The putty tape is available in rolls. The butyl tape which is also available in rolls is far superior.
  • I used the tacky tape then a tiny bead of white window/door sealant around the outer edge
