Question about V-nose front kitchen trailers.

Any one know if they are considerably heavier on the tongue than regular trailers with front kitchen, and regular trailers that have kitchens amid-ship, or regular trailers that have kitchens in the rear?

I think they would. I'm just looking for info from folks who have front kitchen V-nose trailers.

  • We have a V nose toy hauler which is designed with s heavy tongue weight to offset the toys in back.

I will tell you that my wife loves the lay out of the V nose kitchen. It provides a lot of counter and storage space. In ours, only one bottom cabinet in not accessible with the slide in. I appreciate all the great food she cooks in the v nose!
  • Our actual tongue weight, fully loaded, in our rear kitchen TT nearly doubled from the factory dry TW and went from 10% to about 14.5% (with 4 empty tanks and 1 battery).

Doesn't matter if you have a front or rear kitchen or what the dry weight is listed at, you will never know until you have your TT fully loaded up for camping and go weigh it at a scale or use a tongue scale. You *might* be able to get an indication of what the actual TW might be by asking on a forum what others with the same model have found. I really don't think what you load into a kitchen area actually weighs that much , and it won't have much of an effect. As noted above, the manufacturer simply positions the axles to suit the type/layout of trailer.

I did detailed weighings of our TT last year, as delivered to the dealer, after adding modifications and then when fully loaded for camping. The weight of all cargo in our 29' TT fully loaded for camping (all interior stuff plus BBQ, chocks, etc. in pass-through) came to only 555 lbs (and that's distributed load from front to rear of TT). The weight of "ordinary" cargo isn't as much as some think unless you have a bunch of heavy tools, a gen., firewood, and the like.
  • I think we get confused by the dry weight calculations. Remember that dry weight means that nothing has been added to that front kitchen area. It would seem to me that the kitchen area is going to be loaded heavier than other areas of the trailer. Disheses, food, cleaning products etc... will add up fast. Our Flagstaff 831RESS has a center kitchen and a front bedroom. The dry weight leaving the factory was 775lbs. When we loaded it up for our Florida trip the TW was a measured 1040 LBS. I added a Battery and it was full on 2- 30 lb propane tanks.
I would also be inquisitive about what one weighs on the scales
  • The weight is adjusted during the design stage by moving the axles for or aft .
  • The Forest River Windjammer 3001W has a front end kitchen V nose and the hitch weight is listed 738 pounds, whereas the 3008W with a bed in the front and kitchen in the middle has a listed tongue weight 882 pounds, which is heavier on the tongue. Click here.

    Forest River Flagstaff V-Lite:
    30WFKSS - front kitchen - hitch weight: 882 pounds
30WRLIKS - Front bed, kitchen in the middle: 918 pounds

Quite obvious, the Forest River brands have a lighter tongue weight with the front end kitchens.
