The first 35 years of being a road warrior we never had an RV. Just a sleeping bag and a box of tools. Later we got trucks. We went everywhere. We drove across the country at least once a year. Sometimes several times. We traveled all year. Once I went across the country in a VW bus with no heater. I will never do that again. We lost our headlights coming off of Wolf Creek Pass in Colorado in Dec. The local police offered to put us up downtown. We spent the night in jail because it was 20 below zero. He let us out at 0500.
I got my first RV around 2000, a truck camper. It is hard to change old habits. I still drag trailers in places they are not supposed to go. If there is anyone around it is too crowded. Steve McQueen gets credit for this quote "I would rather wake up in the middle of nowhere than the fanciest hotel on Earth." I don't go out there because I like it, I have to go.
