I fully agree with a lower rpm generator having the capability to be quieter than a high rpm one. It works the same way with high quality low rpm air compressors.
But the old vs. new Cummins Diesel noise comparison is all wrong. The reason that newer diesels are quite is because of Pilot Injection, it wasn’t possible until Cummins went with electronic common rail fuel injection. If you turn off the pilot injection on a new Cummins it still sounds just like an old one.
