T... CHP officer recommended a color laminated copy out back of the camper. Went to Office Depot , made a copy that looks almost more authentic than the older beat up original plate, put a frame around it and screwed it onto back of camper.

My guess is the officer that saw the duplicate plate would just suggest you tear it up. I think the officer would tell you to move the plate to the TC. From previous threads, I think it is also required that the plate be on the vehicle, not the cargo (TC). If true, we are illegal no matter what we do.
Until a few months ago, I moved my plate back and fourth. I finally decided to leave it on the truck. I have decided if I get cited, it will only be a fix it ticket and it will tell me where I am to put the plate. My bet is on the TC.
