I've had gas and propane factory gen's in past RV's, both Onan's. Propane was much quiter, but still noisy, I used moving blankets to muffle the sound for my neighbors sake. I did make sure there was still plenty of air circulation, worked well. I know the license plate thing is off the OP's original topic, but here in N. Y. The law says " must be visible from 100'",I no longer switch it.
