- TargaExplorerI guess i'm the only one that would never own a long bed....:B
- Eng208ExplorerI went to a long bed in 2003 and have said repeatedly "I'll never own another Short bed (6'). Hauling a fiver and needing a toolbox is a no go on a short bed. The crew cab long beds are a bit much to park though. I have drive an extended cab long bed 4x4 for the last 9 years and even it is a little difficult to get into parking lot spaces. Just park out on the ends and use it for exercise. Keep a rain jacket in the truck!
- KD4UPLExplorerLong bed's don't hold enough stuff in my experience. I certainly wouldn't want a short one.
The ride should be better. If towing a FW you won't need a sliding hitch. On many trucks the fuel tank of a LB truck is larger than on a SB truck. - campingkenExplorerThe S/B is now called a standard bed. We bought a S/B because we wanted a full 4 door truck and they were too long for or old garage with an 8 ft bed. Since we don't have, nor want, a large hard size camper the S/B works well for us. We tow a horse trailer and often room to park or turn around is at a premium.
For us the "tip the scale" deciding factor was that we like the looks of a S/B over a L/B. We have never been in a situation where we wished we had a l/b but to each his own and buy what works best for you. - 45RicochetExplorer

The offer is at around 33,000. - spoon059Explorer III'll jump on the bandwagon (kind of...). As long as you feel confident being able to park the long bed truck wherever you will be going, there isn't any real good reason not to get a long bed. If you need to parallel park anywhere, you won't want a long bed. If you live in or regularly drive in a city, you won't want a long bed. If you don't mind parking a little further out in a suburban parking lot and don't mind not fitting in a garage (its a TRUCK... they get parked in the driveway or backyard) then you'll probably enjoy the longer bed.
More room for a 5er hitch, more room for cargo, more room for full sheet of plywood, you can fit a full size motorcycle in the bed, etc etc. - whskExplorerGet the Longbed and you will love the extra storage space not to mention a better ride-whsk
