I have been running a series of HD gas trucks (6.0) the last couple years and recently bought a new Duramax. I really liked the gas trucks (3500 SRW CC). The diesel gets 3-4 mpg better than the gas doing about everything. If I were going to pull that far, I think I would get a diesel. These are GM comparisons but the end results I think will be about the same. I miss the gas trucks in some ways, especially now that is mind numbingly cold out, but for your application, I think the diesel is just a better fit.
