So for my purposes, a TC, it sounds like diesel isn't strictly necessary. But ....is the way to go.
And it sounds like if i get the diesel, I can do absolutely fine with the 68RFE.
I am pretty set on the DRW.
What other options MUST I get? I'm so confused. I can't even tell what I get when I move up from Tradesman to SLT to Longhorn to Laramie.
Yes get the Cummins, especially if you're thinking of other options down the road. Smooth power, great torque without revving the engine and if you sell down the road will increase value.
My '14 has the 68RFE and it does just fine. 100K miles on the odometer and cranking along.
Yes, DRW for a truck camper. Many smaller TC's are fine with a SRW, but the size you're talking about will be much more stable in a DRW.
Trim level? There are a ton of bells and whistles and each costs $$. Mine is SLT and is pretty well equipped. I don't have the backup camera but that is about the only thing I feel I'm missing.
Other options?.......AIR SUSPENSION! :E :B. Starting in '14 RAM offered a factory air suspension with auto leveling feature in the 3500's. I'm sure the metal sprung suspension would carry your TC just fine, but the idea of a smooth air bag system with multi-link axle sounds awful nice. My truck has the 5-link coil suspension and it rides super smooth, even when I have the pin weight of my 5er resting in the bed.
MOPAR GOOSENECK & 5TH WHEEL PREP PACKAGE This is a $350 option and well worth it. If you think you'll get a 5er down the road get the package. I installed mine because I bought my truck used. It wasn't terribly difficult but it did take some wiggling. If you get the OEM system it won't interfere with your TC and if you get a 5er down the road you just buy a hitch made for the RAM puck system, drop it in, then hook on and go. Believe me, this will be money well spent if you want to tow a 5er.

Incorrect. The rear air option started in with the 2015's. I have one of the first. It's been trouble free.
Did you mean offered in 14 for the 2015's ?
