Looking for some actual experiences in the last few years on pricing as it relates to MSRP. Any real world numbers would be helpful, such as $xx under MSRP so I can get some general idea. I'm just starting to look for pricng, but I wanted to have a general idea of what others have achieved. Also, does anyone have a good website to find this from other buyers? I have used edmunds in the past, but they don't seem to have much activity on lower volume vehicles like this.

I'm in the same boat. But getting a GMC 3500HD SLT Duramax. Start at NADA and build your truck exactly like you want to get dealers invoice. You should pay less than invoice if getting the right deal. You should end up paying 10 to 15 percent below msrp less any rebates. If you are trading you will mud up the waters. If you can try to sell yourself. Also the dealer is more inclined to work off lower margin if it is a factory order. Don't let them push you to buy what you don't need or want just because it is on their lot.

I had 4 different dealers emailing bids til I found the lowest. I then went to my local dealer and asked him to beat it. Then I got free lifetime oil changes. Duramax ax 3500 4x4,love it.

In fact that is the first thing I ask to see when buying. based on the invoice I make an offer and tell them how much I want for my trade in and then I let them think about it for a week. if they don't call back I move on to the next dealer. one dealer here in town sell trucks for $500 over invoice every day of the week. he sells a lot of cars and trucks this way.

Volume dealers may get you the best out the door pricing but service after the sale in my experience is not the greatest.

And you really believe the "invoice" they show you is what they paid for the truck???

After completing the vehicle inspection and paperwork, I drove home the same day. Saturdays, they have an open grill for buyer and service customers - They fed me before I took off from the lot.

http://www.davesmith.com/dealership/about.htm The building doesnt look anymore low overhead than any other dlr. i bought our 2015 Yukon in Boise and it was almost 9k off msrp walking in off the street. There are dlr's that sell lots of vehicles at small margins and do quite well. Look at the posted prices at Dennis Dillon in Boise.

I have never been directly in the auto sales business, but I was told a long time ago that the "factory invoice" that is shown to customers is different from the actual invoice in their confidential records database. Dealerships do need to make money to stay in business, pay salaries, electric bill, etc.

My last vehicle was purchased from a "Car Pro" certified dealer (guy has a radio show on Saturdays - Jerry Reynolds). No hassle at all, handled primarily via email, and it was even cheaper than my special corporate discount rate from the company where I work. He has dealers set up in various cities, and I highly recommend it. Look it up on Google.
