Heresy, but what if I drop back down to a SRW?
Never shopped for TC's so I'm not sure what's out there. According to the 2016 RAM Towing Guide if you select Crew Cab, 8' bed, auto transmission, and 4X4 the max payload is 5600lbs for a 3500 Dually and right about 4,400lbs for a 3500 SRW.
You'll have to pick and choose your TC from there.
As far as the truck goes, I STRONGLY encourage you to get the air suspension and 5th wheel prep options. You won't regret either one. Really the 5th wheel prep is a no-brainer. If you think you'll get a 5er at some point it would silly to not get that option if you're going to buy/order a brand new truck.
Can you haul just fine without the air suspension? Yes. However, do some searching in this Tow Vehicles section and you'll see all kinds of people asking questions about adding air bags, Timbrens, etc to improve heavy load towing. So, if air suspension is available as a factory option and you anticipate frequent heavy loads, it seems like an easy choice to order it with the truck and have it from the beginning.
