Heresy, but what if I drop back down to a SRW? I would have to get a lite or smaller TC, but all the other driving I do (off road, snow) would be so much easier and simpler. It sounds like a full ton diesel SRW can still handle a nice TT or 5th wheel though obviously not as big. Those are in the future, anyway. The question is whether I can find a 4 season TC under the payload of a SRW. Payload per RAM of a full ton Cummins 4x4 with AISIN is 4380 and tow capacity of 17,210.
But with SRW I could take a TC in the snow with no problem, off road no problem... just would have to get a lighter TC. Are any Light TC under 4000 wet and also decent in cold weather? Or is that just impossible?
Best thing you can do is find the camper you want and then buy the truck that can carry it. Don't forget to figure in weight for all your stuff food and "liquids". Most say ad 1000lbs to the weight of the camper. Oh and the weight posted on the campers is usually lower than the real weight sometimes way lower.
