Not sure if all the 6.4 owners know this. The 6.4 takes 0w-40. Currently there is only one oil besides the mopar brand that meets Rams specs of MS 12633, and thats Penzoil Ultra. There are other 0w-40's out there but they dont meet Rams standards.
So you can't use API SN rated oil?
If the label doesnt have the MS 12633 rating it is not approved.
The mopar oil is rebranded Penzoil ultra. I e mailed Amsoil, Mobile 1, and Rotella and asked if there 0w-40 meets the rating. They didn't. IIRC one of them didn't offer a 0w-40.
This is political BS and stuff like this totally pisses me off. From reading around online basically Mobil 1 was the only one Ram (Mopar) would endorse until apparently Penzoil bought them off and now they are the only one.
I can't find Penzoil anywhere but online for about $12/quart (including delivery). I can buy Mobil at Walmart for about $5/quart.
It's just amazing how manufacturer's and big corps will find a way to squeeze every last bloody dollar out of us they can.
All I know if there is no way I'm driving all the way to the dealer, waiting for hours and paying hundreds of dollars for some hung over kid making $10/hr to change my oil.
