I had a round about conversation with the service guy at the dealership. The manual states 15,000 mile. The dealer said every other oil change which at the recommended oil change of 7500 then yes that would be 15,000. So the catch all is in real life the oil changes are more like 3-4000. So that would be every 6-8000 miles. A far cry from the 15,000 the manual and dealer think.
I couldn't get it thru the dealers head that why would I change it every 6-8000 when the manual say 15,000. He just kept coming back with every other oil change.
I do it at 10,000.
GoDucks, do you really change your oil at 3,000 top 4,000 miles?? I change at 10,000 and test, no issues oil still doing great at 10,000 miles.
Unfortunately yes. That's when the EVIC usually prompts me too. I can only get a little over 3000 between changes. I suppose I could send some oil into Blackstone Labs, just never bothered. I don't drive on the hwy all the time so my regens are more frequent. I DIY my own, and at $52.00 it's not bad. I put about 9000 miles a year on it. Seriously considering doing a DPF delete with SIMS. - coolbreeze01ExplorerAnother good source for filters is truckhelp.com/parts/auxpage_fleetguard-filters/ Free shipping on orders of $50 or more.
- Tom_BarbExplorerWho can't tell when their truck/MH is loosing power? A clogging filter will be noticeable it doesn't just make the truck quit. Changing the filter at 15k isn't going to guard against getting a load of bad fuel.
- Turbo_Diesel_DuExplorerI bought two spare fuel filters when I bought my 2012 6.7 Ram and still have them even tho I now have a 2013 Ford Ecoboost along with oil filters. Had 25K on my 6.7 when traded and original filter. Did change the air filter @ 20K.
- JIMNLINExplorer IIII bought my '03 Dodge/Cummins HO HPCR in my sig new in 1-'03. I change the fuel filter every 20k miles with a 13 dollar premium 7 micron Fleetguard fuel filter from Genos or my local Cummins dealer for 16 bucks. Its done easily with no mess from under the hood in 5-6 min.
With 230k+ miles on the odo and a oil analysis done every 50k and 7.5k/15k mile oil/filter changes everything is normal.
At one time my Dodge truck dealer gave 19.95 dollar fuel filter changes using Mopar fuel filters for the Cummins but some time in the mid '00s raised prices to match other area Dodge truck dealer prices. - Cummins12V98Explorer IIIHere are the actual prices from www.genosgarage.com
Mopar Chassis mount 13-14 $58.95
Mopar fuel filter NanoNet 4 micron 10-14 $42.95
Fleetguard air filter 10-14 $25.96
Fleetguard Stratapore oil filter fits all 5.9/6.7 $13.50
FYI Fleetguard makes oil and fuel filters for Mopar.
IMHO maintaining a 5.9 or 6.7 is dirt cheap! Keep extra fuel and air filters on hand. - rhagfoExplorer IIINewer rig I would change at 15,000, fuel systems a a little more touchy than on my 01. Filters asre also a little more expensive! I would look at the local truck stop, or Cummins service location. Truckers don't like being ripped of so prices are more reasonable.
Next choice would be Geno's if Cummins isn't too close. - maxwell11Explorerwhat general maintenance filter clog will put you on the side of the road the fastest?
fuel, oil or air?
fuel filter in my humble opinion,
I use Baldwin brand filters, they may not be the best, but good enough for me and dodgie do right.
I do not put many miles on my truck, so I just have the fuel filter changed out when I have the oil changed at 7500 mile intervals.
2005 dodge diesel, runs good, starts good, so far, no problems.
treat the tank to a little diesel kleen from time to time
winter or summer blend depending on the time of the year. - bovelloisExplorer

Run them until the Cummins shows a loss of power, you'll find you will probably trade the truck prior to needing a filter.
4 trucks over 200k on each, 1 filter.
x2
You can go 100k without a problem and fill up at a bad fuel station and plug a brand new filter. - Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIBuy then from Genos Garage and do it yourself at 15K.......$47 for fuel filter.
10 minutes of your time. Knowledge of your vehicle and new clean fuel filter.....priceless.
I'm a freak about preventive maintenance.....I change my fuel filter at each oil/filter change (5000 miles).
After 30 yrs. of operating multi-million dollar equipment to generate electricity, preventive maintenance was what keep that equipment running hard 24/7/365.
Oil/filter keeps the 'blood' flowing
Air filter keeps the 'lungs' huffing
Fuel filter keeps the 'muscles' strong
And a large cup of coffee with a plain cake donut kept me awake at 4 in the morning on those graveyard shifts :B
