I have spent time four wheeling in Colorado, and ended up scratching the heck out of my old Grand Cherokee because it was too wide for the trails. Using a $50k + truck that i several inches wider than a Jeep to do it is just silly.

I don't "off-road" for the sake of it, but I camp, hunt and fish a lot in places you need a high ground clearance 4wd vehicle to access. My truck with a decent set of AT/MT tires will get you into a lot more places than you'd think.
