To whom it may concern,
I recently purchased a coachman clipper 17FQ. I was planning on towing it with my RAV4 2011 Sport V6 W/ tow package. Manufacturers towing capacity on this vehicle is 3500 lbs. I bought a hitch, power brake controller, appropriate trailer plug, and a very nice Blue ox weight distribution hitch. I then installed all of the above on the RAV4 and drove to the dealer from which I ordered said trailer, 3270 miles away from my home because I could save roughly 6 or 7 thousand dollars verses buying in my home state of Alaska.
The RAV4 did actually tow the trailer but it did so running the engine around 40,000 RPM. Unless I was going downhill then it dropped to about 23,000 RPM. The trailer was still pretty empty as we have not outfitted it yet and put no water in tank.
My recommendation is if you are planning on towing with your RAV4. The trailer should be very light. Unless you plan on driving 45 or slower the whole time you're towing.
On the bright side the 2016 Toyota Tundra I bought to get home in is very nice.
My the force be with you always.
Been there, done that... Got an F-150 and then a bigger camper...
