Why doesn't my light on the refrig come on any more when I open the door?

That means the light is now on when the door is closed, and off when you open it. You can verify this by drilling a hole in the refer door and having a peek inside.
You can also check this by putting your cell phone in video recording mode and leaving it in the fridge. Don't leave it in there too long though because your cell service will slow down when it thinks it's winter.
