I would have a hard time putting 7K into a truck that age with that mileage.
Another option is to sell the truck as is and look for a good used truck, you don't have to buy a new one unless you want a new one.
If you want to stick with a diesel I would be looking at 06 to 07 pre DPF Dodge Cummins or Chev/GM Duramax models.
