Readers Choice Awards

Just received the latest Trailer Life magazine. They have the results of the yearly readers choice awards. The #1 choice for tow vehicles is.... wait for it... Ford!!! Chevrolet is #2, and Dodge is #3. I don't get it. Every time I see a post on here about ford trucks lots of posters will jump in to flame ford trucks as junk. So what gives????. You'll notice in my profile I drive a Ford truck but I'm not really a ford guy, always have driven a GM product, so haven't been drinking the blue koolaid. So, go ahead and flame me, I'm a firefighter and have the protective equipment to protect myself!!! LOL. (just couldn't help myself) Cheers John.

  • I have had mostly Ford trucks. My father was a manager at a Ford dealership. He had friends that owned Ford dealerships in our area. I have stayed with Fords, due to the fact that I know the dealers personally, and they have treated me very well when buying, and when needing service.

I think having a good relationship with your dealer is most important, as all the trucks are quite reliable.

I believe it... Around here I see way more Fords, then a distant Chevy and a close third RAM at the camp grounds.

Again this sounds like a poll based on readers who pull travel trailers of some configuration and represents real world results and not some internet chatter full of smoke and mirrors.

    Nice report... :B

Freedom of choice and shopping with an open mind is much more my style than showing brand "loyalty" to a hunk of steel & fluids that couldn't pick me out of a lineup even if I drove it daily for 10 years.

I agree and I don't think Ford gets flamed on this forum unless you are talking about the 6.0 engine. I think most agree that the rest of the truck is fine.

I couldn't afford a new truck so I bought my current one used due to the fact that my brother works at a Chevy dealer and I can get good deals on parts and service.

I think all the big 3 are good, but I think Dodge shot themselves in the foot until recently by not having a true crew cab. The quad cab was not big enough for my family or I would have gladly purchased a used 03-09 3/4 ton Cummins rig. (IMHO, The Megacab are too few and people ask too much for them.)

When it comes to my next one, I'll look at all available options and buy the one that suits me and my family the best. No blind...I mean brand loyalty here ;).
  • I don't think dodge makes pickups any more. Fiat changed the name of their pickup to Ram.
  • Based upon sales Ford is the most popular of the "Big 3."

Now, does most popular = "best?"

Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.

I like my F250 but am heavily leaning toward Ram for my next truck. But hey, I'll test drive them all, Chev/GMC included. Freedom of choice and shopping with an open mind is much more my style than showing brand "loyalty" to a hunk of steel & fluids that couldn't pick me out of a lineup even if I drove it daily for 10 years.

In my mind, they're all so close in price, performance, and reliability that it comes down to personal preference and factors like how the seats fit your caboose and which interior appeals most...subjective things. I just don't see a clear-cut winner. They all have their strengths & their little quirks, and they are all seemingly getting better with each generation.
