Probably because at 100K the glow plugs need changed.....
Glow plugs turn ON when key is turned ON...duration of ON is controlled by the powertrain control module.
Grid heaters are controlled by PCM/ECM and cycle on when ambient air temps below roughly 55*F-65*F.
Doubt the shop said they changed the 'plugs'....OP said they changed the 'plugs' but wasn't sure what all they did.
