Don't really care what the "experts" have to report on fuel mileage. The only vehicle that matters is the vehicle I own. My truck gets about 15 mpg when not towing. It got 12 with my Keystone camper, and it now gets 10 with my Outback (averaged 11 on our Florida trip over Christmas). I just had the 100,000 mile diesel tune-up on it, and it looks like fuel mileage has increased, although I've not filled the tank since I had tune up, I can tell its improved. Experts ... they can advertise their wares. The only one that counts is MINE!
What is a Diesel tune up?
New plugs, rotor and condenser. ;)
Not sure all they did, but did something with engine to clean it out from oil gunk, oil and fuel filter, plugs, rotate tires, new front brakes (which is wonderful now ... didn't realize how sloppy they were before), checked everything over with a fine tooth comb, and gave me a "high five" I could tow another 100,000. Actually the truck has about 115, 000 on it right now. But they called "it" the 100,000 mile diesel make over! (I suppose if this were my car, it would be equivalent to the first 3000 mile oil change!) :)
