I don't know squat about Minnesota because, like Beagle, I call California home. For the same reason he mentioned I have never once moved my rear license plate from the truck to the camper (I do keep a copy of this section of CA vehicle code in my glove box). That said, I also made myself a (plastic laminated) paper plate with my license number on it and the words "This is not a license plate. Original plate on truck bumper"... and I put it on the TC.
That paper plate has been on my truck camper for many years, including my recent trip from San Francisco California to Key West Florida. I have never been stopped or questioned about it and (legal or not) I don't expect that I ever will.
