We have a shortbed truck and Lance 830 that overhangs the plate. We went through several years of switching, and forgetting to switch back, the plate. Never got stopped. So a couple years ago I said to heck with it and left the plate on the truck on a drive from Florida to California. We made it to Arizona before being stopped. The officer politely, but firmly, told us that the plate must be visible. He then wrote us a warning. Would it happen again or somewhere else? I don't know. I would assume that if I was stopped again in Arizona and they ran a search on the plate I would get a ticket. So we have gone back to trying to remember to switch the plate.
